It is all to easy to argue that bureaucracy prefers monotonous product, and that machines can be far more monotonous in their work than humans could ever hope to be. And, therefore, that the natural preferences of bureaucracy drive humans off the market, leading to their replacement by a machine.

That is correct. But that’s not the whole truth. The whole truth is that the regular humans themselves, do often have a strong preference for monotony

I really like this story from Jean Renoir’s book of memoirs Renoir: My father.

(By the way, you absolutely should read this book. What every Anglo needs, is a regular inoculation of French culture, just to keep sane)
